SINGAPORE - Tennis superstar Maria Sharapova thrilled fans when she launched her candy line, Sugarpova, in Singapore, and met fans for an autograph session at Robinsons The Heeren on Oct 15.
About 300 fans turned up for the launch, and loud cheers and whistles erupted from the crowd when Sharapova arrived.
The fans managed to get their packets of Sugarpova sweets autographed by the Russian beauty herself, and also took the opportunity to snap some photos and have short chats with their idol.
Started in 2012, Sugarpova is a premium candy line that reflects the fun, fashionable and sweet side of the tennis star.
Speaking at the event, Sharapova thanked the fans for their support and said she would explore making Sugarpova a bigger lifestyle brand when she retires from tennis, which remains her main passion.
According to The Straits Times, part of the proceeds from the sale will go to The Maria Sharapova Foundation "for helping children across the world achieve their dreams".
The World No. 2 is in Singapore for the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Finals, which will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from Oct 20-26.
