Thai racing star 'Benz Racing' surrenders to police for suspected money laundering

Motorbike and car racing star Akarakit "Benz Racing" Worarojcharoendet on Monday morning surrendered to police at the Narcotics Suppression Bureau in Bangkok to answer the summons issued against him.

Akarakit has been charged with conspiracy and money laundering.

Akarakit, the husband of actress Napapa "Patt" Tantrakul who recently gave birth to their baby boy, is accused of buying a Lamborghini Gallardo SuperLeggera sports car with drug money from a drug-trafficking network led by alleged Laotian drug kingpin Xaysana Keopimpa.

Suspected drug lord linked to Thailand and Laos celebrities

Akarakit reportedly refrained from testifying any further to police on Monday, saying he would only testify in court.

Police investigators were set to bring him to court later on Monday to apply for first 12-day detention period pending a further probe.

A money laundering offence is punishable by up to 10 years in jail term and/or a fine of up to Bt200,000 (S$8049).
