SINGAPORE - After 17 years on the Esplanade's board, first as a board member then as its chairman from 2005, Mrs Theresa Foo will be stepping down end Dec 2014.
Mr Lee Tzu Yang, the former Chairman of Shell Companies in Singapore and a board member of Esplanade since 2003, will assume chairmanship from Jan 1.
Under Mrs Foo's stewardship, the Esplanade has attracted more than 20 million arts goers since its opening in October 2002.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank Theresa for her sterling leadership and immeasurable contributions to Esplanade over the past 17 years. She has been involved in Esplanade's development and progress every step of the way, from an idea to a national icon that plays a significant role in catalysing the growth of a bustling Singapore arts scene," said Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister of Culture, Community and Youth.
"We also welcome Tzu Yang as he assumes chairmanship of TECL, and look forward to Esplanade's continued contributions towards making Singapore a global city for culture and the arts," he added.
For her contributions to the arts and Esplanade, Mrs Foo was recently awarded the Meritorious Service Medal at the 2014 National Day Awards.
Going forward, Esplanade Co Ltd said it will embark on its journey to cultivate more producers and artistic directors for the local arts scene. It will also continue its outreach efforts to enable more people, especially the less privileged, to benefit from engaging with the arts.
