A man wanted to jump off his flat at Chai Chee.

SINGAPORE - He had tried to give his neighbour a call to ask about the commotion at their block.

Imagine his surprise when he found out that it was that neighbour who was at the centre of the commotion at their block in Chai Chee on Friday morning.

The Singaporean man in his 40s, had threatened suicide and paced around his flat with a chopper.

But Mr Syed (not his real name), 50, who lives on the fifth floor, was unaware of what was happening because he was asleep after getting home from his night shift at Changi Airport, which ended at 7am.

His wife woke him at about 10.30am to ask about the commotion.

She had gone to a nearby shop and phoned Mr Syed to ask about the crowd.

"I told her that I didn't know anything because I was sleeping," he said.

"But when I looked out the window, I was surprised to see so many police and fire engines at the foot of my block.
