A man yesterday was sentenced to serve six months in jail after pleading guilty to theft charges.
During the proceedings yesterday, the defendant Mohamad Alizul Ahmad, 31, told the court that he broke into a house in Kg Setia A to steal because he was desperate for money to feed his children. He was unemployed due to his lack of education.
The court document submitted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Dk Siti Nurul Fairuz Pg Rosli states that on October 5, Mohamad Alizul gained entry into a house in Kg Setia A when he went through an opening in the roof and a wall with wired partition which led him to the back door of the house.
He stole a 42-inch flat screen television and a gas cylinder. He sold the stolen items for $70.
The police report led to Mohamad Alizul's arrest and during the investigation, he admitted the theft.
The presiding Senior Magistrate Dk Masni Pg Hj Bahar said that while the defendant stole to feed his children and does not possess higher education, those were not reasons to steal.
Theft, said the senior magistrate, "is a serious offence to which this court will not take lightly".
Mohamad Alizul, a first offender, has been ordered by the court to serve the jail sentence with immediate effect.
