Three brothers among four charged over robberies

GEORGE TOWN - Three brothers, two of them former Rela members, claimed trial in two Sessions Courts and three magistrate's courts here to 67 charges of gang robbery and possession of stolen goods.

They were jointly charged with committing the offences with a friend.

Siblings Mohammad Fareezwan Samsuri, 21, Mohammad Firdaus Samsuri, 25, and Mohammad Fairuz Samsuri, 27, were alleged to have committed the offences with their friend Mohamed Yaser Yacobpu Ghani, 21.

Mohammad Fareezwan and Mohammad Fairuz, both former Rela members, together with Mohammad Firdaus and Mohamed Yaser, denied several counts of gang robbery involving victims of various nationalities at different locations in Penang.

They were charged in two separate Sessions Courts with robbing their victims of cash and valuables.

They also pleaded not guilty in three magistrate's courts, to 54 counts of possessing stolen goods.

They were not represented.

The four accused, who are unemployed, are charged with committing gang robbery under Section 395 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum of 20 years' jail and whipping if convicted.

They were also charged with possessing stolen goods under Section 29(1) of the Minor Offences Act.

The total amount of bail fixed for all four accused by both the Sessions Courts and the three magistrate's courts amounted to more than RM100,000.

The cases in both Sessions Courts were fixed for Oct 9 and Oct 25 for mention.

Two of the magistrate's courts had fixed the cases to be mentioned on Oct 24 and the third on Oct 25.

All four accused failed to raise bail.
