Three men arrested after video of brutal attack sparked online outrage

Three male suspects were detained by Beijing police yesterday, after a video clip of them brutally attacking a teenager was circulated on Chinese social media.

The video was posted on Sina Weibo last Saturday and generated anger among netizens who demanded that the authorities bring the attackers to justice.

The Criminal Investigation Department posted an appeal for information on its official Weibo account and began investigations after sharp-eyed netizens provided information on the possible location of the attack.

Xinhua reported that one of the assailants gave himself up to the police yesterday, and the other two suspects were later located in the neighbouring Hebei province. All three have confessed to the attack.

On Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau's official Weibo account, Beijing police said that initial investigations revealed that the attack occurred on May 23 and that the victim did not inform his parents or lodge a police report.

Beijing police also said that the victim has since received treatment in a local hospital and is in stable condition.
