'Tis the season to party'

The hottest nights out for December

Bassis feat. Roska

When: Saturday, Dec 28, 10pm Where: Home Club, 20, Upper Circular Road Price: $15/22 (includes one drink)

The London Roska has been pushing the envelope of house music. His mixes are a distinctive marriage of bass... and more bass.

All worked tastefully, Roska - or Wayne Goodlitt to his mum - remixes and produces a soundscape that leans on future-forward house peppered with percussion and beautiful melodies.

His nights at legendary London club Fabric and weekly shows on radical radio station Rinse FM have catapulted his innovative take on what dancefloor-friendly music can become in the popularity sphere.

For his Singapore debut, Roska will be supported by some local heavyweights in the form of Home Club resident DJs Ming and Jerls alongside William J who will be fresh - and, hopefully, fully recovered - after his set at ZoukOut.

It's the end of the year, and that means party season.

Looking at this month's party roster, it's nothing short of exhilarating. There's a two-day beach party to revel at, and awesome local DJ and producers playing all over the joint. Check out my picks below and drop me a tweet at @zulandra to say which are your favourites.

ZoukOut 2013

When: Friday and Saturday, Dec 13 & 14, 8pm Where: Siloso Beach, Sentosa Price: $108-168 from Sistic

This is the big one. Two days, 32 DJs and one renowned dance music festival.

ZoukOut returns for its 13th instalment. But let's not be superstitious about the number. Judging from previous turnouts, the festival is growing from strength to strength.

Last year saw 40,000 odd revellers sweating, gyrating and losing their minds to music from some of the world's best DJs. It was a significant jump from 25,000 the year before.

But like it or not, this year's line-up is more commercial. Hey, it draws the bigger crowd.

Just look at the club's night with Dutch DJ Hardwell at Fort Canning earlier this year - close to 8,000 partygoers for just one DJ.

ZoukOut 2013 will see the likes of veteran Dutch DJ Ferry Corsten, the sexy female duo Nervo, one of trance music pioneers Dash Berlin, and EDM flag bearer Afrojack to name a few.

Similar to last year's festival, there will be three stages to go to.

The Moon stage will host all the biggest DJs while the Star stage will push for a more discerning sound from the likes of Seth Troxler and Solomun.

The Localised Tent isn't just a sideshow feature. It was packed last year with local DJs holding their own.

There will be a breadth of talent this year and an eclectic array of sound from Maurice Simon, Gerald Ang, Gema, Wiliam J, Amanda Ang, and Marco Weibel.

Syndicate Subsessions feat. Octover and Cherry Chan

When: Saturday, Dec 14, 8pm Where: Home Club, 20 Upper Circular Road Price: $15/22 (includes one drink)

After her internationally acclaimed self-titled EP, Vandetta (also known as Vanessa Fernandez) will rendezvous with her earlier project in the form of electronic duo Octover.

Joining her partner-in-crime, producer Jason Tan, the duo will be backed by an actual band for their first full-length live set.

Also on the bill for audio-visual collective Syndicate Subsessions is its co-founder Cherry Chan. The DJ-producer will be premiering her first solo album - Poncho Poncho! - with accompanying visuals from what is billed as "mystery artists".

The Document feat. Xhin with Dharma and Decrypt

When: Saturday, Dec 21, 10pm Where: kyo, #B1-02 Keck Seng Tower, 133 Cecil Street Price: $20/25 (includes one drink)

He is not well known here, but DJ-producer Xhin could be Singapore's finest electronic music related export since Creative Technology.

Preferring to play overseas, Xhin has rocked clubs and festivals in Germany, Australia, Poland and Japan - to name a few - with his brand of dark, bass-heavy techno.

For one rare night, Xhin returns home and will be joined by Dharma, the guitarist from Singapore's iconic industrial rock band The Observatory.

The last time, Xhin performed at The Vault and the bar had trouble accommodating the turnout. Completing the local line-up is veteran DJ Decrypt. His Berlin-style techno will be the perfect primer for Xhin's broody play.

Siloso Beach Party

When: Tuesday, Dec 31, 6pm to 6am Where: Siloso Beach, Sentosa Price: $45 (early bird - enter before 8pm), $55 (till Dec 15), $60 (Dec 16-30), $65 (at event)

It's the biggest night of December. So why not spend New Year's Eve at Asia's largest beach countdown party?

You also get to catch the last sunset of 2013 and the first sunrise of 2014.

Celebrate with an expected 20,000 party-goers dancing to music from an astounding line-up of internationally acclaimed DJs across five party zones.

Adding to the fun is a giant foam pool. Expect to splash and be splashed with colours. If the main arena gets too much, there will be lo-fi and beach house tune areas, or you could even surf at Wave House Sentosa.
