SINGAPORE - Steamboat meals were the most popular Chinese New Year (CNY) meal choice for Facebook users in Singapore in 2014, according to statistics released by the social media site on Wednesday.
Besides showing spikes in certain festive keywords such as 'steamboat', 'spring cleaning', 'lou hei' and 'lion dance', Facebook users from Singapore were also busy uploading photos and checking into foreign destinations during the CNY period.
The top destinations that Facebook users from Singapore checked into during CNY 2014 were Hong Kong, Malaysia,Philippines, Japan, India, Netherlands and USA.
CNY also presented business opportunities for online merchants due to the closure of brick-and-mortar shops observing the holiday, with people making last-minute travel arrangements and shop for new outfits, presents or ingredients for the festivities.
