Tow truck man jailed for robbing shop assistant in lift

KUALA LUMPUR - A tow truck man waylaid a shop assistant in a lift and robbed the 25-year-old man of his sling bag and a rosary necklace.

Yesterday, Mohd Yushelmy Yusop, 25, was sentenced by the Sessions Court here to 10 years' jail for voluntarily causing hurt to Lau Peng Khuang, also 25, and robbing him.

Judge Azwarnida Affandi also ordered the accused to be whipped five times and the jail sentence to run from yesterday.

Mohd Yushelmy and another man still at large were charged with using a belt on Law and robbing him of his prayer necklace and a sling bag that contained his clothes and the keys to his employer's shop.

The offence was committed in a lift at the Taman Mulia flats in Bandar Tun Razak here at about 3.15am on Sept 30.

Earlier, DPP Nor Aizam Aiza Zamran said she hoped that the court would consider public interest and the seriousness of the case as the victim had suffered injury.

In asking for leniency, Mohd Yushelmy said he was just 25 and had to support his mother.
