Twitter launches first-ever emojis for Singapore

SINGAPORE - Twitter has launched a pair of emojis for Singapore, its first-ever for the country, to commemorate the nation's Golden Jubilee.

With special permission from the Singapore government, the Singapore flag emoji will be seen when you use #Singapore, while the SG50 icon will appear when you use #SG50 when Tweeting on Twitter itself.

Both emojis are available today and can be seen when Tweeting from your desktop.

This morning, Singaporean blogger mrbrown officially launched the nation's first-ever Twitter emojis with this Tweet and fun meme celebrating the uniquely Singaporean way of life.

#5wordSingaporeStories became the #1 Twitter Trend in Singapore within an hour.

"Twitter has always been the go-to platform for people to engage in live, public conversations about their passions, cultural moments and events taking place in the real world, and we know the SG50 discussion will peak this week. These emojis are a fun, colourful way to unite Singaporeans during their Golden Jubilee and National Day celebrations, which is also the perfect time to launch the first-ever Twitter emojis for Singapore," said Rishi Jaitly, vice president of media, APAC and MENA, Twitter.
