Two cops suspended over racist WhatsApp remarks

GEORGE TOWN - Two Penang police officers have been suspended after allegedly making racist remarks on WhatsApp.

Penang police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said in a statement yesterday that the suspension was issued by the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

The duo had allegedly made the remarks in a work-related WhatsApp group discussion meant to tackle gangster-related issues under Ops Cantas.

The statement did not reveal the officers' ranks.
