Two soldiers in Indonesia arrested for allegedly supplying drugs to nightspots

The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has arrested four people, two of whom are military personnel, for allegedly supplying ecstasy pills to a number of nightspots in the capital.

BNN head Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso said on Tuesday that the soldiers, identified only as Lt. Col. WW and Sgt. Maj. SI, and a married couple -- AF and SY - had 1,000 ecstasy pills in their possession.

"AF and SY were targets of our officers who have been monitoring the suppliers of narcotics to nightclubs in Jakarta," Budi said in Jakarta on Tuesday as reported by tribunnews.com.

The BNN later become aware that the two soldiers were members of the narcotics syndicate, according to Budi, adding that the BNN officers were involved in an exchange of fire with the two soldiers when they tried to avoid arrest.

"The BBN personnel immobilized the suspects. They are being treated at the hospital," he added.

Budi said he had reported the arrests of the two soldiers to Military Commander Gen. Gatot Nurmantio, who pledged full support for the BNN.

"The commander supports the duty of BNN in dismantling narcotics networks, including those that involve soldiers," Budi said.
