BUKIT MERTAJAM, Malaysia - A 43-year-old man was charged in a Sessions Court here Wednesday with murdering a woman, whose chopped-up and burnt body parts were found in Juru.
Abd Khalid Md Isa, who is unemployed and believed to be the victim's boyfriend, allegedly murdered Rohani Hashim, 30, at a house in Jalan Pengkalan Datok Keramat in Bukit Tengah here between 4pm on Sept 29 and 6pm the next day this year.
No plea was recorded from the accused, who was not offered bail as the offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code is non-bailable.
Sessions judge Musyiri Peet fixed Dec 15 to mention the case.
Deputy public prosecutor Lim Saw Sim prosecuted while Abd Khalid was unrepresented.
It was reported that police believed the accused murdered Rohani and set her body on fire in an attempt to conceal the crime.
A villager related to the accused made the gruesome find in Kampung Tok Keramat on Oct 1.
The suspect was arrested in Bandar Baru, Kedah at 4.45pm later the same day by police acting on a tip-off.
Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Rusli Mohd Noor was quoted saying that the suspect, from Langgar, Kedah, had 12 previous drug-related and criminal offences.
It is learnt that the suspect was recently released from prison.
The gruesome killing is believed to have been sparked by anger as Rohani wanted to end her relationship with the accused.
