US Senator Cardin calls on PM Lee

SINGAPORE - US Senator for Maryland and chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asian and Pacific Affairs Benjamin Cardin called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong this afternoon at the Istana.

During the meeting, PM Lee welcomed the US' commitment to continue deepening its engagement of the Asia-Pacific region.

He and Senator Cardin exchanged views on strategic geopolitical developments, including the progress of the ongoing Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, and affirmed the excellent bilateral relations between Singapore and the US.

Senator Cardin also met with Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam earlier today.

They discussed international and regional developments, including the importance of the successful conclusion of the TPP, and underscored the importance of US engagement and sustained presence in the Asia-Pacific.

Senator Cardin is in Singapore for the ongoing 13th Shangri-La Dialogue.
