Varsity student found brutally beaten to death

MIRI - A university student living in a rented house in the Kuala Baram district was found brutally beaten to death.

The body of the youth, believed to be in his late teens, was found sprawled in a pool of blood inside the double-storey house in Desa Senadin, a housing estate, during mid-afternoon yesterday.

Miri police chief ACP Mun Kock Keong said police were investigating the case as possible murder, and a team of officers had gone to the scene to gather as much clues as possible.

"We are interviewing those people inside the house (there are several other students renting the house and the victim is one of them) to find out what had actually happened.

"The case is being investigated as possible murder. Whether the student was killed by someone who broke into the house or whether there are other possibilities would only be determined after we have completed a thorough probe," he said.

Senadin assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin called on the police to get to the bottom of the case.

"We view this very seriously. It involves a young person who is also a student. Whether the murder was caused by a break-in or robbery or internal problems inside the house, the police are still investigating.

"Whatever it is, a serious crime of such a nature must be investigated thoroughly and the culprit or culprits arrested and dealt with according to the law," he said.
