Victim of robbery in Malaysia dies

MALAYSIA - She was to be a bridesmaid at her sister's wedding later this year. But that is not to be.

She died on Wednesday morning after battling for her life for five days, China Press reported.

The young woman was seriously injured following a brutal robbery in her neighbourhood in Petaling Jaya.

The daring attack took place at about 9pm last Thursday, just 100m from a police station and right in front of a restaurant.

The victim, Ms Wu Li Jun, 27, had struggled with the robbers, who were trying to steal her handbag. In the tussle, her bag strap broke and she lost her balance. Her head hit a cement pole and she lost consciousness.

The woman, who works in a bank, had refused to let go of her bag. Witnesses had shouted for the two robbers to stop.

Unmasked

They were said to have been unmasked during the robbery, but the attack was not captured by CCTV cameras in the vicinity.

The police had been interviewing people who were in restaurants and retail shops in the vicinity.

They would not rule out the possibility that the robbers frequent the area. The case is classified as murder and the police is seeking public assistance in tracking the perpetrators.

Ms Wu had undergone two brain operations while she was in a coma.

Ms Wu is the fourth of five children and comes from a close-knit family.

Her third sister, Ms Wu Li Ping, who is getting married in December, said: "My sister cannot be my bridesmaid and accompany me at my wedding.

"We are really very heartbroken and hope that the criminals will be caught soon."
