Woman bleeds profusely after fainting and hitting head on bus

SINGAPORE - Commuters at a bus-stop along Chinatown looked on in horror after a woman fainted unexpectedly and fell head-long onto the road, hitting her head on the front of a bus.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at about 6.15pm, at the bus stop in front of People's Park Centre.

According to eyewitnesses, the woman in her 40s was alone at the time, and stood near the edge of the pavement.

She fell forward just as a bus was moving off from the bus-bay, hitting her head on the front of the bus in the process.

"There was a loud 'bang' before she collapsed on the ground, her face contorted in pain," said one eyewitness.

She began bleeding profusely from a wound on her head and her hands were also covered in blood.

An ambulance arrived at the scene about 15 minutes after the incident.

However, witnesses observed that the woman seemed disoriented initially and struggled with paramedics, refusing to be brought to hospital.

She insisted she was fine, but officers eventually managed to get the woman to lie down on the stretcher before conveying her to hospital in the ambulance.

'Human shield'

Despite the heavy rush hour traffic, helpful bystanders created a 'human shield' around the woman, who was lying on the side of the road, to prevent vehicles from coming too close to her.

A member of the public also brought some ice for the woman's wounds.

According to a spokesperson from the Singapore Civil Defence Force, the woman suffered a head injury and was sent to the Singapore General Hospital for treatment.
