Woman brutally attacked over debts

SEREMBAN - A 43-year-old woman rues the months of placing bets with an illegal four-digit gaming operator after she was brutally attacked by two men over debts running up to RM40,000 (S$15,000).

You Lee Ying received 14 stitches on her left arm after the two assailants pounced on her just moments after she opened her restaurant in Rasah Jaya, near here, on Saturday morning.

The mother of four claimed one of her attackers was armed with a machete while the other beat her with a heavy stick.

The police said the two suspects were nabbed a day after the attack.

Recapping events that led to the attack, You said she received a call on Dec 2 from a man who purportedly worked with an illegal gaming operator.

"He said I had to pay RM5,000 by Dec 7 and then RM3,000 a month till I cleared my debts," she said, adding that she agreed with the arrangement.

Worried over her own safety, You lodged a police report on Dec 3.

Seremban OCPD ACP Muhd Zaki Harun said the case has been classified under section 394 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing hurt.

Offenders can be jailed up to 20 years, whipping and a fine.
