Woman claims trial to scalding domestic helper

GEORGE TOWN, Malaysia - A company director cum insurance consultant claimed trial in a Magistrate's Court Wednesday to scalding her domestic helper with boiling water last week.

Lim Lee Poh, 44, from China Street, was alleged to have caused hurt on Koay Ley Kheng, 24, in an apartment in Jalan Bukit Bendera, Air Itam here at around 4.30am on Aug 20.

She denied the offence under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to three years, fine, and whipping if convicted.

Magistrate Sri Pracha Nanthini Balabedha fixed bail at RM4,000 (S$1,586) in one surety and set Oct 9 for mention pending the medical report.

She also ordered Lim to keep a distance from the victim, her family and friends.
