KOTA KINABALU - A mother collapsed after seeing the body of her son who was found after he was reported missing two days ago.
Ibnu Paharan, 29, was found with slash wounds on his head and body, his hands and legs tied up and his mouth gagged at about 7am near some bushes not far from a water tank in Telipok here yesterday.
The parents and his siblings had come to Kota Kinabalu from Sandakan in search of him but were shocked to find him brutally murdered.
"I don't know who would do this to him," said Ibnu's brother, who did not want to be identified.
Kota Kinabalu city police chief Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun said police found the body after a man lodged a report about an abandoned vehicle in the area on Tuesday.
Police traced the vehicle to Ibnu after getting the information from the Road Transport Department, and later found out that he had been reported missing in Sandakan.
Police combing the area found Ibnu's body and believe he could have been killed about 48 hours earlier.
"We are still trying to establish the motive behind his murder," said ACP Jauteh, adding that Kota Kinabalu police were working with their counterparts in Sandakan.
He urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the case.
Ibnu's father and cousins were also at the scene but none wanted to speak to the media.
