Woman falls victim to snatch thieves at graffiti site
Mural, by Lithuanian-born artist Ernest Zacharevic, with its knife-wielding man waiting at a street corner to attack a woman carrying a handbag had gained a lot of attention for spotlighting crime in JB.

JOHOR BARU - A woman got her handbag snatched during a robbery, metres away from the "Lego man" grafitti site.

The incident occurred when two men on a motorcycle stole the woman's bag at 7.30pm on Thursday. The victim was also injured.

A local business owner, who declined to be named, said if the graffiti were still there, this crime would not have happened as the "grafitti" had attracted a lot of people to the area daily.

"However, this place is now quiet since the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) officers painted over the grafitti," she said, hoping for more police presence in the area.

Johor Jaya assemblywoman Liow Cai Tung said she was not surprised at the incident as Taman Molek and Johor Jaya were crime-prone areas.

The Star had earlier reported that the graffiti row had taken a life of its own, with many backing Lithuanian-born artist Ernest Zacharevic's work in defiance of the local authorities.

His painting in Taman Molek, which depicted a knife-wielding man waiting for a victim around a corner, irked the authorities because the area was known as the state's financial area.
