Woman gets jail for making false rape claim

A woman who had consensual sex with a cleaner at a rubbish bin centre lied to police that she had been raped.

The court heard yesterday that after the act with the 33-year-old Malaysian worker, Norlindah Roslan, 28, quarrelled with her fiance over the phone. Feeling stressed, she called the police hotline, claiming that she had been raped.

That was not the only offence the former healthcare assistant, who is divorced with four young children, admitted to. She also consumed drugs, stole a $1,400 ring from a taxi driver, and assaulted her younger sister together with two others.

The court heard that at about 1.50am on March 3 last year, Norlindah handed her uniform to the cleaner at the rubbish bin centre for drying, before leaving to smoke. She alleged that when she returned, the cleaner pulled her into a room and raped her.

Police investigations found that she walked into the cleaner's room of her own accord and the two had agreed to have sex.

Norlindah was sentenced to 41/2 months in jail.
