Sin Chew Daily reported that a female participant in the Melaka International River Marathon was molested by two men while she was running at an isolated stretch.
Annie Yee said the two men had approached her on a motorcycle during the marathon in Bachang on Sunday and touched her buttocks before speeding away.
"I was shocked. There were two male runners but they were far away. There was no one I could call for help," she said, adding that she decided to continue with her run.
Yee subsequently related her incident to a policeman stationed at the marathon after the event.
"I decided to reveal the incident because I hope the organiser will pay attention to the safety of female runners," she said.
Expressing his shock over the news, Malacca River and Coastal Development chief executive Datuk Baharom Majid promised to follow up on the investigation.
