KUANTAN - Two men armed with knives waylaid two women outside a convenience store in Jalan Beserah here before taking off with their valuables and car. However, police managed to arrest one of the suspects less than a day later and recovered the stolen car.

The 30-year-old suspect led police to a house where they found items believed to be stolen, including cellphones, identity cards, credit cards and watches.

Police also arrested a man at the house and are trying to establish his connection with the two robbers.

Kuantan OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Aziz Salleh said the two men tested positive for drugs and had criminal and drug-related records.

He also said the detained men were believed to have known each other while both were in prison.

"The robbers were armed with a machete and a knife. In their fear, the victims handed over their belongings before the suspects took off with their car on Tuesday.

"After the victims lodged a police report, we set up checkpoints around Kuantan and managed to arrest a suspect in Air Putih at about 10pm the same day," ACP Abdul Aziz said.

"They then led us to the stolen vehicle in Gebeng. The men have been remanded for five days to assist in investigations."
