Worker denies raping 10-year-old sister-in-law

KUALA LUMPUR - A hotel worker pleaded not guilty to raping his 10-year-old sister-in-law in the bathroom at their home.

The 26-year-old man was accused of raping the girl at the PPR flats here between April and May last year.

DPP Siti Aisyah Ahmad urged the court to deny bail, saying there was possibility of witness tampering by the accused.

Defence counsel Dony Abdullah, however, said his client should be released, noting that the prosecution had not produced any affidavit to support its argument.

"The facts that I have received from his family show that the victim is now staying in Perak. There is no risk of the accused jumping bail," he said.

Dony said his client had to support his four siblings and aged parents living in Setapak.

"The man was arrested when he was visiting his pregnant wife who is due to give birth at the Ampang hospital," he added.

Sessions Court judge Azwarnida Affandi rejected the bail application due to the victim's age.

"The victim is a vulnerable witness. The accused has a family relationship with the victim and there is a possibility of him disturbing the girl," she added.

She set July 23 for mention.

In the same court, a contract worker claimed trial to committing incest with his stepdaughter.

The 41-year-old man was accused of committing the offence in Setapak at 2am on June 14.

The man told the judge that he did not have money for bail and did not know how to appoint a lawyer for his case.

Azwarnida fixed July 22 for mention of the case.
