KOTA KINABALU - A group of construction workers turned against their supervisor when he refused to pay one of them his salary because he was absent from work.
The suspect and his co-workers escaped with about RM17,000 (S$6,800) in workers' salary after a scuffle with the 35-year-old supervisor at a coffee shop in Lintas, near the state capital.
Kota Kinabalu city police chief Asst Comm M. Chandra said yesterday that the suspect and his friends had gone to the coffee shop to receive their salary at about 5.30pm last Saturday, but he was told that he would only be paid on Tuesday as he had been absent from work for some time.
"The man got angry and tied the supervisor to the chair with the help of his friends before they fled with the money," Chandra said.
The suspect was arrested at about 3.55pm at a nearby canteen the following day.
"Police are trying to determine the number of workers involved in the incident," ACP Chandra said.
