Young Artist Award

Five artists aged 35 and below have been conferred the Young Artist Award.

They are:

Lee Mun Wai

A founding member and full-time dancer and writer at T.H.E Dance Company, the 32-year-old choreographs works that are often inspired by - and incorporate - text and drama. As an artist, he creates works across disciplines and his collaborations include the video art installation Ghost Of Capitol Theatre by local film-maker Royston Tan for last year's Singapore Biennale.

Ian Loy

Founder and artistic director of MySuperFuture Theatrical Productions, the 34-year-old specialises in children's theatre and is a regular collaborator of the Esplanade's Playtime! programme, which cultivates appreciation for theatre among children aged two to four. He also frequently partners local theatre companies to conduct drama workshops in secondary schools and junior colleges.

Jow Zhi Wei

The 31-year-old film-maker's works, which often focus on the stories of lesserknown communities, have been screened at film festivals here, including the Singapore Short Cuts. His short films have also been chosen to compete at international film festivals such as the 66th Cannes Film Festival last year.

Siti Khalijah Zainal

The theatre actress, 29, has more than 10 years of experience performing in many productions by local theatre companies such as The Necessary Stage, Cake Theatrical Productions and Teater Ekamatra. She has also toured with theatre productions to Scotland, Australia and Russia, and presented a one-woman production, Best Of, at last year's George Town Festival in Penang, Malaysia.

Chen Zhangyi The 30-year-old composer's works, which span genres such as opera, wind ensemble, chamber and choral music, have been performed by world-renowned orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. He also conducted workshops and masterclasses at the School of the Arts and Temasek Junior College from 2010 to 2012.
