Youth charged with stealing cables

A man was denied bail after the prosecution said he is also involved in two other ongoing criminal cases.

The defendant, 26-year-old Mohmamad Zul Asnawi Hj Asmad, was charged with stealing cables belonging to DST in the vicinity of the DST Tower at Jalan Pasir Berakas on January 7.

The court document stated that Mohammad Zul Asnawi and co-accused Md Amin Rashid Hj Mohammad, 24, and Mohd Najib Salim, 25, were jointly charged with attempting to steal cable wires the next day from the same place.

During the proceedings, the trio pleaded not guilty to their respective charges. While both Md Amin Rashid and Mohd Najib were each released on a BND$3,000 (S$2999.82) court bail and one local surety, Deputy Public Prosecutor Didi-Nuraza Latiff objected to Mohammad Zul Asnawi's release on grounds that the defendant has two other trials and that there is a risk he might commit offences again.

The court granted the prosecution's application and scheduled a further mention of the case on January 24.
