SINGAPORE - Chinese flagship newspaper of Singapore Press Holdings, Lianhe Zaobao, has launched its own app for Apple Watch, allowing users to access breaking news on the new gadget.

Lianhe Zaobao is the first Chinese newspaper in Asia to create and launch an app for the Apple Watch. This comes after the launch of Apple Watch apps for news website AsiaOne and newspaper The Straits Times last month.

Starting today, users can receive breaking news from Lianhe Zaobao on the Apple Watch. They can choose to read the news headlines or bookmark the news to read it later on Lianhe Zaobao's iPhone app at their leisure. Apple Watch users can access nine breaking news stories from Lianhe Zaobao any time of the day.

Lianhe Zaobao's breaking news alerts for iPhone app users will also extend to Apple Watch.

Apple watch users will only need to download the Lianhe Zaobao iPhone app and pair the Apple watch with the iPhone. For current Zaobao iPhone app users, they will need to upgrade their iPhone app to the latest version in order for them to enjoy full access to Apple Watch app functions. Users can download it for free on the App Store from 12 July.
