Who gets priority?

I REFER to the article, 'Lift upgrading: Who gets it first' (ST, April 30). I am encouraged by the Minister for National Development, Mr Mah Bow Tan's clear restatement of some of the factors considered, other than the level of support for the ruling party, when upgrading HDB flats.

There is obviously nothing wrong with the governing party wanting to reward its supporters as long as these other factors are weighed too.

However, there is still widespread perception of unfairness among supporters of the opposition. It would thus be timely for Mr Mah to further state how upgrading work is prioritised.

By doing so, he could stop all attempts by the opposition to make use of the perceived unfairness to gain sympathy votes.
