New Faces
go on the air
You’ve seen their fashion centre spreads
in this paper. Now, ourNewFace finalists
can beheard on the radio and seen
on webTVand on video. They tell
our reporter about their experiences by Kelvin Chan, newroom intern
Radio 91.3
IT was the first radio experience for most of the 20contestants. They had to record radio trailers asking for votes. These are currently heard on Radio 91.3 FM.
Sara Chan, 17, said: 'When I first heard my recording, I thought 'Oh my, I sound weird'.'
But it proved to be fun and fresh for her.
'Not everybody has a chance to do that. It's like a once-in-a-life time experience.'
91.3 DJ Jeremy Ratnam, who produced the trailers, said: 'They were a bit nervous in the initial stages, but when they delivered, they were pretty good at it.
'In fact, we had a number of one-take wonders - one recording and that's it!'
Nicole Hug, 20, had an extra special experience.
Right after she finished recording, she was invited into another studio for an unrehearsed, live-on-air-chat with the hosts of The Married Men show.
She described the experience with Rod Monteiro, Andre Hoeden and Audrey Lim as hilarious.
'I couldn't stop laughing! I just love their sense of humour, they really are so funny.'
And that experience sparked something off in her.
She said: 'On my way home later I was just thinking to myself, how do you get into that kind of business?
'I could really imagine myself being on radio.'
Video
When you turn up at The New Paper New Face 2008 finals on 10 Oct, you'll see the girls in a mini movie directed by Michael Wang of The Vintage Film Co.
He is also the director and writer of the local movie The Carrot Cake Conversations, due for release in November.
The black-and-white video will feature the girls up close, with a soundtrack of old-school jazz music.
Some of our girls found starring in a film a weirdexperience.
Jennifer Polce, 18, found it hard to get comfortable. She said: 'I had to flirt with, and scold, the camera.
'Scolding the camera was so difficult - I just couldn't stop laughing.'
But Tinah Lee, 19, found it easier compared with the other photoshoots she did earlier.
She said: 'I was less nervous as the atmosphere was really relaxed and encouraging.'
Tinah is confident she will look good in her segment.
She said: 'After going through numerous shoots and viewing my own profile video online, I'm confident that things are better than I imagine.
'After all, such videos are all about capturing our best moments - even if it sometimes takes a bit of luck!'
Razor TV
From Wednesday, the finalists will appear on Razor TV.
Razor TV is a new, Internet-based live television programme, broadcast from 2pm to 11pm on weekdays from the SPH TV studios.
The girls will be on 'live' at 7.05pm. They'll be guests on the show R.age.
Viewers can also send in questions that the girls will answer while on the show.
To watch, you'll have to log on to www.razor.tv
New Face finalist M Revathhi, 19, is no stranger to TV, having been on programmes on Vasantham Central. Still, she is excited.
She said: 'Live TV is straight to the point, not like doing recordings over numerous times.'
Madeline Neo, 17, is calm about the upcoming experience.
'As long as the audience doesn't ask difficult questions like why is the moon round, I think I'll be fine.'
