ELISHA THIARA, 15
Cedar Girls' School student
Elisha Thiara, 15, may be the youngest of the top 20 finalist of The New Paper New Face 2009, but the precocious Cedar Girls' School student was on Kids Central's One Minute of Fame programme when she was just 10.

"I sang You can't Hurry Love by the Dixie Chicks. It was a very exciting experience for me. It gave me my first taste of showbiz and I can't wait for more!"

The teenager of Malay and Chinese parentage is all for racial equality.

"I was very moved by this book I read called Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry. It's mainly about the racial segregation between blacks and whites in Mississippi in the US.

"I've also seen pictures of people killing each other just because their skin is different. It's a really sad thing! I mean, under everything - the clothes, the hair, the skin - we're all very much identical."
