Julie, 17, also plays musical instruments, like the keyboards and the zither.

"When I am up there on the stage and set, I feel a sense of belonging and freedom. As a performer, I want to bring across such emotions to the audience."

The Chinese Theatre student from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts is equally passionate about The New Paper New Face.

She even gave up a role on an upcoming TV series on Channel 8 to join the competition.

"I wanted to try my hand at modelling, which I've never done before.

"My family was supportive. My mum was telling me that it would be a pity to give it (New Face) up as I had a chance. So here I am!"
