Tan Yoong - An extravaganza
An extravaganza

The models dripped with diamonds and precious stones from Lee Hwa Jewellery as they stepped out in Tan Yoong's collection of just-as-precious-looking haute couture gowns.

In the designer's comeback show in 17 years, he stuck to his winning formula of luxuriant fabrics, extravagant accessories and lots of glamour that his clientele love him for.

It took a year for this partnership between Lee Hwa Jewellery and Tan Yoong to see light of day and almost nine months for the two to see the collection of jewels and gowns from conception to completion, but that was time well-spent on crafting these one-off pieces and customised jewellery.

Well-known for his wedding gowns - if you were a bride 10 years ago, you would know that Tan Yoong was the designer to see about getting your white wedding dress - he showed a clutch of evening gowns in a gorgeous palette of colours that ranged from baby blue to scarlet red yesterday evening. Silhouettes were diverse, ranging from mermaid gowns to classic goddess dresses and funky little numbers done up with powdery pink feathers and tulle.

Meanwhile, the most of the jewellery pieces were so large that you could see them quite clearly even if you were sitting three rows deep into the audience.

Hair were just as over-the-top with pouffy hair to classic chignons that showcased glittering diamante headpieces. Models wore bold red lips and heavily lined eyes to match the atelier's gowns.

And as the designer came out to take his bows, the audience whooped with obvious appreciation for the visual feast that they were served.
