| It's a shame that we haven't heard of Carlos here in this part of the world earlier. His Spring/Summer 2008 collection, having already made its round on the European fashion circuit, is a perfect foil to our tropical climes in sunny Singapore.
There was nothing overly-complicated about this collection, which featured a number of handworked pleating that the designer is known to favour. Colours were mostly subdued with beiges, neutrals and whites dominating the runway, and the occasional flashes of red and turquoise were paired with quiet grays.
The designer showed how to make fabrics 'pop'with 3-D effects. Evening gowns were given an extra oomph using little puffs of white silk rosettes on a basic form-fitting white dress. Of noteworthy attention was his off-white dress with a voluminous long train, created with the handworked pleating that he is known to favour.
Singular details such as the toga dress with rope-tie slung over the shoulder or an crystal-studded neckline allowed fabric to flow sensually over the body that would make city girls go ga-ga for it's elegant simplicity, while the more flamboyant creations had a busy print combined with pleats that reflected his Brazilian roots.
Knitwear was also featured - a short knitted dress over a bikini set, a long casual dress with lacing details.
As a collection, Miele's S/S 2008 had a laid-back and resort-like atmosphere.
