Tuition centres: Hall of fame or shame?

Mon 14 Dec 2009

It is common for tuition centres to put up namelists of students who have done well in their exams, and in doing so, claim credit for their achievement. However, for some centres, their 'hall of fame' includes names of students who have not performed well.

Are tuition centres playing the name-and-shame game and is such a practice harmful to students' self-esteem?

Parents interviewed say they would be offended if their kids' names and less-than-stellar results were publicised, while students say they would feel embarrassed.

However, some argue that it is a way to motivate students to do better.
