A recent article in The New Paper highlighted the different approaches taken by the Singapore and US health authorities to bring across the anti-smoking message.
While the US health authorities focus on 'guilt', Singapore focuses on 'gore' (read more).
Another approach to consider is the one taken by America's Next Top Model in its 2008 campaign.
The series of 12 photographs depicts the contestants smoking, with an older, sickly version of themselves reflected in the mirror.
Could this be a more effective approach?
Or are 'gory' images, as favoured by the UK and Brazil health authorities, the best way of getting the message across?
