If you think Singaporeans are unusually apt at creating acronyms out of thin air, wait till you check out this year's Los Angeles Motor Show.

We're fine with the Honda Jazz and the Fit even though one's not musical and the other has no muscles - but to name their concept P-NUT? It actually stands for Personal Neo-Urban Transport.

But this is for another story.

The Los Angeles show opens Dec 4-13 and as usual, the press gets first dips on the cars.

More than 30 world and North American debuts will feature in the show.

Newcomers include the 2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder.

More than 50 trendy hybrids and alternative fuel vehicles will also be presented.

Running through the list, we have the performance car Fisker Karma, Audi's e-Tron concept, based on their R8, Chevrolet Volt and and BMW's Bladerunner-esque Vision EfficentDynamics concept.

For those who're a bit frisky after all that saving during the recession, there is also the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, the Audi R8 Spyder and the first supercar from Lexus, the LFA.

In usual AsiaOne fashion, we'll stop the rambling here and let the photos do the talking.
