A GRAPHIC 12-minute video of grisly traffic accidents in China's Shandong province has been making its rounds on the Internet.

The footage originated from CCTVs and surveillance cameras in Heze city, the video's preface claimed, and it was created by the author "zhi ma pai ke" to remind people of the sanctity of life and to drive safely.

"According to statistics, 99 per cent of road accidents arise from the violation of traffic rules," the preface added.

Out of the numerous blow-by-blow scenes depicted, many stem from motorists beating red-lights or not giving way, with disastrous consequences to match.

The video has appeared on YouTube and Chinese video-sharing website Youdo, garnering millions of views and thousands of comments from netizens.

Due to the graphic nature of the pictures and video, viewer discretion is advised.
