April 2009
By Tony Ng
*updated on April 25* We are now into our fifth day of the Shanghai International Auto Show 2009 since its public opening on April 21 but the excitement seems to continue unabated.
A couple of combination photos reveal the startling similarities between the Rolls-Royce Phantom and the Geely GE. A Lifan Motors 320 car also looked surprisingly familiar as if it was a BMW Mini. There are even look-alikes for the Toyota Yaris. We wouldn't be surprised anymore if there is also a look-alike of the Chery QQ. It would definitely be interesting to find out how many degrees of look-alikes can these Chinese carmakers go.
Jokes aside, these young upstarts such as Chery Automobile, Geely Automoble and Great Wall Motor are showcasing high-end brands (Geely has Riich) as they aim to grab a slice of the foreign-dominated segment.Hopefully, they won't make it to our shores, at least not in a few years' time.
Enjoy these shots from the auto show. The show will end on April 28, 200. --AsiaOne
