The stage comes alive when they fill it with their charismatic voices and hearty performances.
The best of getai was honoured Tuesday in the third annual Getai Awards, organised by STOMP.
Some 3,000 fans, both young and old, turned up and filled out Kreta Ayer Square in support for their favourite singers the night of the ceremony.
A total of 10 Special Awards and 10 People's Choice Awards were handed out at the event.
The Best Male Singer and Best Female Singer awards, which are new categories, went respectively to Zhuang Qing Yu, 41, an interior designer turned professional getai singer, and Lee Pei Fen, who was the voice of May and Choy in the local movie 881.
