Singapore's wildlife shares space with urban dwellers

Singapore may be an urban jungle, but it still has its fair share of wildlife.

In February, an owl paid a visit to Toa Payoh MRT station, while concerned netizens highlighted the plight of an eagle and its nest, which may face possible 'eviction' after the land where it built its tree on was slated for development.

The wildlife spotting does not stop there, because STOMP featured other critters which have made their homes on this tiny urban jungle.

An alert reader, tweeted that what looked like an alligator, was actually a false gharial. Pictures of the critter were sent into STOMP and posted yesterday by the citizen journalism website. The reader who sent in the pictures claimed that they were taken at Sembawang Park.

However, a later Facebook post by the Singapore Zoo verified that the picture was likely to have been snapped at the Treetops Trail, a nature trail that is accessible from MacRitchie Reservoir.

We take a look at some of these creatures that share our space.
