BBC cameraman Gordon Buchanan endured an attack from a hungry female polar bear that lasted 45 minutes.

He was safe because he was sitting inside a bomb-proof "perspex pod," the on-ice equivalent of a shark cage.

He said he decided to sit in the cage to better understand the animal, to seem them up close.
