Singaporean artist Lawrence Koh is rejuvenating an ancient art form into the Singapore scene.
He enthralls audiences with works of art he creates in just seconds by flicking and swishing fine sand around on a blank canvas.
With a few pokes and sweeps of his hands, faces and animals start to appear.
In a televised interview, he explained that he discovered sand art through video sharing platform Youtube. After seeing the videos, he decided to give it a go.
Through sand art, he learnt the beauty of impermanence and letting go.
He explained that in sand works or any other kind of art, they are all impermanent. So through it, he learnt to let go and to keep giving life to art by constantly re-creating it.
To exemplify his words, he created a beautiful art piece and then after it was done, he wiped it away and created a new piece from the old.
The Lasalle graduate inspires people to give sand art a try, and to diversify the local art scene.
