Indian ghostbusters perform exorcisms at ghost fair

People who are said to be possessed by evil spirits are sent to a ghost fair by their loved ones at Malajpur village in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The affected devotees will undergo a series of rituals to cleanse themselves.

According to Reuters, the exorcism process involves the devotee running around the temple courtyard to make the 'ghost' weak and then the priest would beat them with a broom.

The rituals included some shocking steps to diminish the spirits such as lighting a woman's wrist on fire. The possessed devotees can be seen dancing in a trance-like state and also running around the grounds unrestrained.

We take a look at how an Indian exorcism is conducted.
