Jiuzhaigou emerges as the top destination to experience in AsiaOne's Best of 2007 Reader's Choice contest, with Bhutan narrowly missing the pole position

If your travel plans for the New Year have not been firmed out yet, fret not.

Some 500 AsiaOne readers have ranked the top 10 places in the world to be experienced first-hand, to help you better decide which destinations to set foot on, and which to just enjoy vicariously through travel TV and magazines.

So, if there is only one holiday you can muster this year, make it to the scenic Jiuzhaigou, China. The famed valley in the Sichuan province emerged tops by winning some 25 per cent of the readers' votes.

With 135 nods of approval, Jiuzhaigou edged out second-place Bhutan by just one vote.

Boasting majestic mountains and regal monasteries, quaintly complemented by a humble and religious native population, it is not difficult to see why Bhutan, the 'land of the thunder dragon', is held in such high regard.

Other destinations in Asia rounded up the top spots: Taiwan took the third placing, followed by Nepal, Mongolia, and Khaolak, Thailand.
