The Lion City kicks of ten days of glamour and cutting-edge fashion today, with the opening of the Singapore Fashion Festival 2007.
Setting up its style headquarters in The Tent right in the heart of Orchard Road, this year's festival features over 100 local and international designer labels and collections from luminaries like Matthew Williamson, Vivienne Tam and Marc Jacobs.
Acclaimed designer Vivienne Tam, well known for her "China chic", East-meets-West designs, is here to open the festival tonight with her Fall/Winter 2007 collection straight off the New York runway. And continuing on this year's theme of celebrating the rise of the Asian beauty, Japanese supermodel Ai Tominaga, who has walked the runway for the likes of John Galliano, Anna Sui and Jean Paul Gaultier, will walk the opening weekend.
Other highlights to look out for on the first weekend include the Aigner collection as well as the Nokia L'Amour Young Designer Show that features this country's hottest young designer labels like Ueno and harryhalim.
And highlighting looks next week are shu uemura, Redken Urban Experiment and Lee Hwa Jewellery, who show that the difference between looking good and great is makeup, styling and "bling".
Matthew Williamson will close the Festival next weekend with a full-scale runway presentation for his Spring/Summer 2007 collection - his first presentation in Asia. And picking up where Ai leaves off is the Tokyo-born Anne Watanabe. Just 20, she was the Fashion Editors Choice model of the year in 2006 and closed the Aigner show at the recent Fall/Winter Colection showcase in Milan.
