Singaporeans love to travel.
No wonder, then, that the happiness levels of Singaporeans rises by 23 per cent while on holiday, according to a study of more than 300 respondents conducted by online accommodation booking website Hotels.com in March.
Where do Singaporeans love to go? It seems they prefer not to venture out of Asia, at least in the past year, according to online rental marketplace Airbnb.
An Airbnb spokesman told My Paper that the top five destinations for its Singapore travellers in the last 12 months were Hong Kong, Tokyo, Taipei, Seoul and Osaka.
Here are quirky Airbnb listings from each of the above destinations.
1. A farmhouse in Hong Kong (above)
Where: Tsiu Keng Pang Uk
What: A serene escape from city life in a farmhouse that accommodates six people. The two-storey modern house is a 30-minute drive from the heart of the city.
How much:$1,373 per night (service fee excluded)
2. A caravan in Tokyo
Where: Shibuya
What: Bunk in an air-conditioned caravan that is equipped with Wi-Fi and bathroom facilities, said to be the first of its kind, in the upscale Omotesando neighbourhood.
How much: $204 per night
3. A white house in Taipei
Where: Wanhua District
What:This white-coloured house is all clean minimalism with its pristine pearly-hued theme. The one-bedroom apartment is a six-minute walk from Taipei Metro's Ximen Station.
How much: $127 per night
4. A rooftop garden in Seoul
Where: Songpa-gu
What: Bask in the rooftop greenery at this quaint South Korean apartment, which accommodates eight. The Jamsil listing is close to attractions such as Lotte World Amusement Park and Olympic Park.
How much:$161 per night
5. A Hello Kitty apartment in Osaka
Where: Osaka
What: Nearly everything in this apartment is emblazoned with Hello Kitty characters, from pillows to tissue box holders and soap dispensers. The host has five such apartments in a single building.
How much: $819 per night
