Have you ever wanted to travel to a country only to find out that you need a visa to enter? Even if some of you haven't been Down Under, you probably already know that we all need to apply for visas in order to visit Australia even it's just a week-long holiday, despite our invincible red passport which grants us access to pretty much the majority of the world with ease.

Well, good news for those who travel relatively frequently to Australia as Singapore and Australia have just sealed a pact that will seek to foster better relationships between the two said nations alongside better cooperation in various aspects including 'security, trade, and the arts and culture'.

Besides giving Singapore's defence forces more access to Australian territory in the name of military training, the Australian authorities will grant Singaporeans multi-year visas instead of the traditional visas with a validity period of just 12 months.

Here at GET.com, we certainly welcome the good news with zeal. Nevertheless, there remain places in the world where we still need traditional visas in order to visit. These 8 countries that Singaporeans probably don't know they need a visa in order to enter may shock you.

1. Bhutan

We completely understand if you're dying to visit the Himalayan kingdom, where happiness is a notch more important than wealth and riches, in a bid to absorb some of those positive vibes. Singaporeans like you and I have to apply for visas prior to travel, this applies to even those holding diplomatic or official passports.

2. Canada

Known for a whole host of things, including but not limited to being a skiing haven, its clean air and its beautiful, natural wonders, did you know that our mighty red passport doesn't grant us visa-free access into Canada?

Stated loud and clear on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' official website, an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) is a requisite for all Singapore citizens looking to enter Canada by air from March 15, 2016 onwards. Well, the only exception is if you're travelling there for diplomatic reasons.

3. Egypt

A trip to Egypt wouldn't be complete without Instagram-worthy pictures of you with the magnificent ancient pyramids. But before you get to that, travellers to Egypt need to apply for visas prior to their travel whether or not you're there for business or pleasure.

4. Ethiopia

Besides holding the title of being Africa's oldest independent country and the birthplace of the coffee plant, did you know that over a whopping 80 different languages are spoken in this huge land mass nestled in the Horn of Africa? Anyhow, those who are looking to visit Ethiopia have to apply for visas.

5. India

Before we delve into India, I just want to emphasise that roti pratas did not originate from India. People who are travelling to India need a valid visa or risk being denied entry. But if you hold diplomatic passports, you're exempt from getting your hands on an Indian visa for up to 90 days within 6 months from your date of initial entry.

6. Madagascar

Made incredibly famous by the animation film with the same name, Madagascar is a vast island nation off the southeastern coast of Africa, home to a multitude of animal species like the lemur. Madagascar is pretty much the perfect destination for those whose hearts are set on exploring the outdoors, rainforests, trekking, deserts and diving. If Madagascar is on your list of must-visit places, make sure that you've applied for a visa or risk being disappointed.

7. Nepal

Sandwiched between India and China, Nepal is one of the places that I'd love to visit someday for its understated charm, breathtaking natural wonders like Mt. Everest and Tilicho Lake, despite its considerably frequent brush with natural disasters. Those of you who are travelling to Nepal should brace yourselves to apply for a valid visa before embarking on your adventure.

8. Ukraine

Ukraine is a mammoth of a country nestled in Eastern Europe renowned for its Black Sea coastline, forested mountains and Orthodox churches. A quick search on the internet showed that Ukraine has close to 500 cities, the biggest being their capital Kiev. You need a visa if you're travelling there for an exotic holiday. But if you're holding diplomatic or official passports, you can enter Ukraine without a visa for up to 90 days.
